That is the greatest motorcycling website I've ever seen.

If you live in California! :)

Dav,
I never rode that route, but a little farther north, route 299 heads west out of Redding (where I grew up) to the Pacific coast.  It goes through old gold mining towns with some really interesting places to poke around.  The Chinese Joss House in Weaverville is not to be missed.  And the road is spectacular, up and over the Trinity Alps, with breathtaking dropoffs down to the white-water river far below.  The road is fast 2-lane, with lots of up-and-down, and challenging curves.  Lots of log-trucks, too.
Farther north yet, Rt. 138 from near Crater Lake, also heads west, and again has some great scenery.  Not a lot of traffic, either.  I did this with my brother two years ago, and the only drawback was we were riding into the sun late in the day.

California 36 is a fabulous road!  100 miles of uninterrupted motorcycling bliss!  It has big sweepers, it has 3 mountain ranges, it has a tight, tight tight one lane section.  It goes from the hot interior, through olive groves out to the wet coast in redwood groves.

But 36 is not alone.  As Steve mentioned, there's 299.  And 96.  And 3.  Then there are the local roads, like Forks of Salmon (no kidding!), Forest Service 1, Scotts Bar Rd., Ruth-Zenia Rd., etc., etc.  Oh, and not to forget, the Lost Coast Hwy from Ferndale to Petrolia to Weott.

Then, there's CA-1, the Pacific Coast Highway.  The last 25 miles of it, from Westport on the coast until it ends at Leggett along US-101, is as good as any road I've ridden in the US, and that includes "the Dragon".

Also... uh, I seem to have gotten a bit carried away here.   :D

Yeah, I've traveled 299 to 96 through Six Rivers National Forest.  Had my flat tire just 1/2 mile from where Big Foot had his picture taken.  Got to spend a couple of nights in Willow Creek enjoying the sights.  Looks like Hwy 36 would have been a better alternative...wouldn't have picked up that nail on Hwy 96.  ;D

Thanks for listing all those good road numbers. Now that is very logical thinking, I am saying, Aïda!!! That's what we gals are noted for eh???? ;)
1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".

My folks were born and grew up in northern california... Loleta to be exact, and went to high school in Fortuna.  I was baptized in Ferndale.  I learned to drive my 65 Mustang on those winding country roads.  How I'd love to get the bike out there on 'em ... especially through the redwoods.  Gorgeous.

Haven't been up that way yet.  I've heard about it (on Pashnit.com of course).  It's on my list.
