destressing from work
« on: October 01, 2009, 07:46:29 AM »
Lately I've been working a little too hard due to lack of staff and stress levels have been a little higher than they should be. But the best form of stress management techniques I have found is the ride home on the beemer. It's fantastic. I slip the helmet on, climb on board and for the 20minutes it takes to get home nothing else exists except the bike, the road ahead and watching out for idiots driving cars. When I get home I'm relaxed and work doesn't exist.

I love this bike and the way it rides. A ride on it also changes my mood instantly.

I've been riding it everyday to work lately.

 :)

Yep, nothing like a ride on a well tuned bike to manage stress.  Unless you have to negotiate 20+ miles on these high speed freeways in the Metromess here.  That will either give you ulcers or a trip to the ER.  Enjoy the ride Darwin, I'm envious you get to do that.

This summer I've used the bike for work almost every day and Ill ride right through the winter on dry days at least. Although I know every bend, bump and pot hole on the way it's still somehow satisfying. It even makes me want to go to work. My only regret is that the trip is too short ....sometimes I take the long way home.

I have a feeling that when I retire (10 years, burning down the road) my annual mileage will drop.  Maybe I'll actually go on more trips though, that would be nice.

In the meantime, yeah a two wheeled commute is nice.

So far this year, I've taken my car to work three times .

My ride to work and back is anything but 'destressing', I refer to it as my morning and afternoon 'death cruise' commute .

Riding all year long since 1993 .
I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

My current job schedule has me going to work at 3:30pm, and returning anywhere from 10 to 12 hours later.

I find the ride in to be challenging and fun, dicing it up with the cages,

but the ride home, in the middle of the night is so peaceful.  If it is after 1am, I practically have the roads to myself.

Last night I had to $tay until 0515 - you could tell the world was coming back to life!

I can't wait to commute on a bike, again.  Now that I know my hand works!  8-)

Living close to work I do not have the opportunity to use the WH8LA2 for commuting but when I have a work related meeting out of town I always ride the WH8LA2 and the only kind of weather keeping me from doing that is snow or rain with temperatures around freezing point.

greetings from a wet, windy, cold and drab north

Before Pattimarie and I moved into our new house in March (which is now about 15 miles away from where I work), we lived about 30-60 SECONDS away from where I "commuted" (if you can call it that) to and from work!  I usually never even got Britta warmed up enough in that brief time in the saddle, and more than once found I had drained the battery from starting it several days in a row to go to work, and had a dead battery when I got off work and was ready to ride back home!   ::)  Oy....

Another call to my "Roadside Assistance Service" (namely Pattimarie) to come pick me up.  After a few times of having this happen, I finally started putting Britta's battery on a trickle charger at night.

I guess that's kinda counterproductive to the whole idea of "de-stressing from work", huh?    ;)
