Mountain Get Away Gone Bad.

Mountain trip was so relaxing I need at least a day to recoup. The charging system on van quit. Just before the rain & snow blew in. Tried to limp out with what little reserve was left in batteries. Only made it about 5 miles of the 16 back to highway. Waited about 12 hours for a passerby for a lift. Problem was it was midweek & we had only seen 3 other campers in our area of Uinta National Forest. There is always the Forest Rangers & Wildlife Officers, so we knew we would eventually be rescued.

The tow truck was very quick to arrive. And the charge to get back to the highway ( 10 - 11 miles ) was $240.00. Then another $240.00 for the tow to the nearest town 58 miles away. The Ford dealer there has the van & will be calling with diagnosis & estimated costs of repairs.

I believe the altenator is the prob. I would like to repair myself. But with the storm, just too miserable a job. Plus previously mentioned(2 Saints & 1 Cocker) helpers/supervisors had their own ideas. So rented a veh & fetched other truck @ home. Dropping off dogs @ home then returning the 50 or so miles to the Ford place to return the rental. Transfered perishables & valuables from van to pickup. Finally home for hot bath & supper. All in all, a memorable trip.
Its all good. On vacation & all that.
Just wish bike had been there. Gotta get it going. Sure could a used it to go for recovery assistance for camper.
