'85 R65 engine oil
« on: June 01, 2015, 05:21:35 AM »
I'm restoring a '85 monolever R65 and I'm having troubles finding the recommended engine oil locally (and within EU actually).

Here's what I've found:

- Motul Classic 20w50 which is SF spec and I couldn't find credible information that it's usable

-Yamalube 20w50 SG from a Yamaha dealership

-Mannol Safari 20w50 SG

-Motul 3000 20w50 which comes in SG (older bottles) and SG/SH/SJ (newer bottles) - depending on how old the stocks in the shops are.

-Valvoline DuraBlend 4T 20W50 SG

Do you think any of these is suitable or I should go the extra mile to have oil delivered from abroad?

I run the Valvoline 4T 20W50 in all three of my Airheads.

I fear a DOT is on short final but what the heck... It's in the proper "Rant" section. Bring it, boys.  [smiley=mad.gif]

Any of them would be suitable but I also like the Valvoline because it's semi synthetic.

Oh My Dog! Did the Earth just now shift on its axis? Could it be that Barry and moi agree on the same Airhead oil?

We both must be well oiled today.

I like Valvoline too, it smells so nice when it gets hot and dribbles out of the decompression lever shaft onto the exhaust pipe on my Yamaha. It gets used in the airheads under my management also, when I cannot find Penrite HPR60.
