Nice Weekend
« on: February 23, 2014, 06:49:26 PM »
With all the rainy weather we have been having it was nice to have a nice weekend. Temps in the high 60's and blue skies.

A local independent shop I frequent was having a 3rd anniversary. The place is called Ton Up Jacksonville, www.tonupjax.com , and is a neat shop. The owner stocks basic maintenance parts for a lot of bikes and will order anything you need. He has rental service bays and tools for the do-it-yourself folks as well as an onsite mechanic for those that don't want to do-it-themselves. He hosts a Sunday morning ride from the bagel/coffee shop down the street and the first Friday evening of each month has a social gathering complete with a different local food truck and movies on the side of the building. The neat part is everyone is welcome and you never know what will ride up.

As part of the 3rd anniversary he held a Customer Appreciation Bike Show with a small trophy for Best European, Best Japanese, Highest Mileage and Peoples Choice. A really nice Honda CB won Best Japanese, a Triumph Speed Triple won Best European and a local Iron Butt rider won highest mileage with a 2010 R1200 GS with 126,000 miles on it. (My butt hurts just thinking about it.) I ended up with the Peoples Choice trophy for my modified R65LS and am still smiling. It was nice to be recognized by a very diverse group of riders.

So many good things going on there!

I certainly like Ton Up's business model. Would that there be more like it around the country. We have a similar operation set up for automobiles in Denton, but no Friday Night movies.

Nice to see your R65LS garnering attention plus, "A Major Award"... as in Christmas Story.

Great photos, too. Thanks, we love photos!

Say, do you have a pic of your "modified R65LS" from this weekend that you could post?  I'd sure like to see it!

I'm not sure, but I think NCSteve may have made the trip there to view the show.  His R65 is still in the shop, so he took his cage if he went.   He tried to get me to head up there Friday evening, but we had just picked up our grandson for the weekend, so I wasn't able to go.  :(

Steve said there was another show in Denton coming up in May, and sent me a link to it.  It is: http://www.amcasouthernnationalmeet.com/

I do think I'll go to THIS show!   [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I forgot there is more than one Jacksonville. That would have been some trip for NCSteve just for a bike show as I'm in the Florida city of that name.  :)

My R65LS is in the last pic but here is one before leaving the house.
