... plus shipping : 74$.

That's still a unsubstantial OUCH considering what you are receiving

I think my quick google returned some BMW "car" prices for ATE brakes. which are less costly

HI, I found that which including piston :

http://www.capitalcycle.com/Caliper-Rebuild-Kit--38mm-ATE_p_543.html

Those are for the single sided (i.e. single piston) ATE calipers fitted to the bigger bikes up to 1980.  They will not fit the ATE opposed piston calipers in the  R65

Flashback 51 years ago and memories of the raunchy XKE Jag that my late father cursed me with as a high school ride. Oh, the horror!

You can get brembo calipers new for about $100 a piece.  Somebody posted a link to the site that sells them a little while back.  It's a Moto Guzzi supplier, but the caliper is the same Brembo as our R65's.

I put new rubber in my ATE's but never replaced the pistons, I just cleaned them up.  All has been working ok.

If I was going to go for a custom performance upgrade, I'd be looking at slotted rotors.

Chap I went to High School with had an e-type. The "cool" was somewhat diluted when you saw the holes int he floor and realized that the fuel tanks were shot and it was fueled by a jerry-can strapped to the back of the driver's seat.

Judging from Monte's profile he was the class of 65". If he had it as a senior, couldn't have been more than 4 years old

Correct call, Joe. High school class of 1965 and college class of 1969. Last October wife and I attended the 50th HS reunion. Big crowd as there were over 1000+ students in my Senior class. Not all made it to the reunion, of course. Some didn't even get out of the 'Nam'

Anyway, my old man went through a "car stage" fueled by some doctor-prescribed, weight-loss drugs. Drugs made him absolutely bat s**t crazy. Uppers. Downers and In-betweeners...

The result was that in high school, I steered not only the Jag but an 1964 Corvette convertible and a Porsche 1600 Coupe... which my younger brother wrecked while I was working the summer as an archery instructor at a Boy Scout camp. Wanted to plant an arrow twit his stupid eyes, I did.

College days and the wheels were on my nickle. Triumph T100C and a string of then-cool Chevys.

Those were the days. Hell, they still are!  ;D
