And yet again, another new member

Glad to join your illustrious ranks.
I've been the owner of this unrestored, untampered, unbelievably great bike since February. Its a 1979 65. It has 20k miles and all service records from day of purchase. I saved her from her previous owner who wanted to convert into a cafe racer (the silliest of configurations).
I have questions but I'll spend some time perusing this blog before I ask you to rehash the same answers.
Cheers to you all!
Max

Looks like someone went to the effort to color match the accessory fairing to the famous Bronco Brown factory paint - looks good!

Welcome aboard!

Plus, Max, you have the official BMW Motorrad-approved Side Case Security System in place. And that's an interesting positioning of the rear view mirrors!

You'll find the nimble R65 to be perfect for slashing through New York, New York traffic.

Hope to see you sometime on the road.  I often ride in the Rockland County area and thereabouts, commonly in Harriman State Park/Seven Lakes Drive, Bear Mountain, West Point, Sterling Forest, Warkwick, and that general area.   If you are up that way, look for a portly guy on blue R65.

Oh,and bye the way, welcome.

The natives are mostly both friendly and harmless.

Ditto on the pannier retention system - the locks, as you are obviously already aware, are merely a joke perpetrated on us riders by the manufacturers. However, the approved means of retaining the little blighters is flat strap webbing. Webbing is much stronger, has little "give" and in an emergency can be used to secure the centerstand to the lower triple clamps so that your bike can taken on a similar aspect to an Ostrich whilst you remove the rear wheel.

Thanks Tony.
The picture is a little dated and luggage has already been improved upon. No more bungee cord.
As for locks... how interchangeable are the cases? I assumed they weren't very theft worthy if they only fit a very limited number of bikes. Is that naive?
