Hello all.  Scooter here and hopefully soon an owner of a new-to-me '83 R65.  Just printed out the DMV paperwork for my permit and have the $$ for the bike.  What with fuel going higher and higher, it's time for a motorcycle.  I just never thought my first one would be a BMW!  Can't wait to dive into this new quest with both feet.  I'm envisioning myself riding to a rally with my saddle bags full and ready for a little adventure.  I fear that when my other adventure vehicle vehicle is ready, a '74 land Rover SIII, fuel will be $4 a gallon and with about 12 MPG's that's not going to be my favorite truck.
I know about zero about bikes but am very mechanical and will be lurking here for lots of knowledge.  A friend was the svc. mgr. at a BMW shop so he'll help with mechanical stuff too.  Thanks and see you later.

Welcome to our herd of cows. Send a pic of the scooter when you can.

1974 Land Rover, huh? The Beemer will be a good parts chaser. I'm sure you've noted that Ford Motor Co divested themselves of both Land Rover and Jaguar. New owners are an Indian corporation named, I'm not kidding here, TA TA. I'm anxiously awaiting the debut of their 2009 Bodacious TaTas. :-?

Surprising how many Rover owners are BMW bike owners too.  I find more and more at the Rover rallies.  Me too soon I hope.

I've always admired nicely maintained Ta Tas.   Even more than I admire a well maintained Beemer!

Fingers crossed Mr Tata might even give Jag enough money to actually build the XKR-R concept they showed the other year... only to have Ford sink it as it would have well and truly pi**ed on Aston Martins fire....

Here in the UK we are paying about $10 a gallon!  You don't know how lucky you are!
