The scariest failure I had was on the '71 MGBGT (previously had a '69).  I remember spending a nice Sunday afternoon tuning the engine and adjusting carbs.  Had it running as smooth as a Chinese watch. 

The next day I was driving out to a service call and I heard a very loud "BANG" followed by a really nasty vibration.  I pulled off the freeway, started to open the hood (or bonnet for you guys that talk sorta funny) and saw a fairly large cut/gash with curls showing something escaped!  I opened the hood and discovered the fan had decided it had too many blades so it tossed one right up through the aluminum hood!.  It was at that point I realized how close I had been to serious injury or even death the previous day.  I then scoured the wrecking yards for a plastic fan!

Back in 1978 or so I sold my '69 Karmann Ghia to buy a 1973 MGB. I regret that move to this day. Anyhow, the day I picked up the MG, I was about 5 minutes from home and noticed the temp gauge was sorta high. Not knowing what was common for the car, I continued home. Upon arrival, I had steam and a mess. The radiator had come loose from its mounts and the fan had dug in to it thus destroying the radiator and the fan. Next day I was under the hood. I replaced mine with a plastic one as well.

Tony can you do a write-up on a 1982R65LS like you did above?  That was great!!

No, sorry, I have no idea what the differences are. I am only as up to speed as I am on the 79-80 -v- 81-84  because I have care and feeding responsibilities for a 79 R65/80 and an 84 R65.
