A question to our New Zealander friends
« on: October 27, 2016, 03:52:37 AM »
Hello !
On a French forum about old BMW, we discussed about the importation in France of an old bike. THis bike, being old, has no conformity to current norms. This made the process to have it street legal impossible to complete.
I'm currently contemplation a move to new Zealand. But it is out of the question I move without my trusty R65.
So question : Is it possible to bring in an old bike and have it street legal in NZ ? Is it difficult ?
Thanks for your help !

More used imported vehicles are sold every year than new in NZ, so importing your R65 shouldn't be a problem.  It is a model sold here new, so already complies...but will have to go through the compliance check and have a NZ VIN plate attached.  Only possible problem could be the brakes, they may want to look closer - so new pads, new fluid, good hoses etc, and it should be just a visual.

Thank you Motu for these comforting news !
I bet New Zealand motor vehicle  department people are less touchy than their French counterpart...
As I bought the bike new, I would definitely keep her 'till I die ...
