Lighting Relay

Anybody know which relay is the lighting relay ?

The only one I've never messed with is a short square metal cased relay.

Was going to take the R65 to work today, got it in the driveway, checked the lights, no headlight.

If I push the headlight switch to the momentary highbeam position, it works, can't hear a relay click when the switch is turned on, so I'm assuming the relay is bad.

Bob, I've seen these relays positioned differently on the same model scooter. Could you possibly  pull the fuel tank and trace the wire colors from the headlight and handlebar switch to the suspect relay?

The problem may also be with the handlebar switch itself as it seems to be doing only part of its job for you.

Good luck. I once entered an AMA enduro that required all the racers to be street legal. I duct taped a votive candle to my KTM's front fender for a headlight. They let me race. Just couldn't ride too fast.

According to Haynes 10:11, and I quote from the book, "the various relays are mounted on the frame top tube (with the exception of the light relay which is in the headlamp)..."
This concludes our reading from the good book for today .
  Also of note I see in the wiring diagram that only the U.S. models have a relay. Lucky us! I've also been told that adventures into the headlamp are often not fun. shoot a pic if you get a chance, I'd like to see whats in there but I lack the bravery at the moment.

Well I know for certain, that there are no relays in the headlight 'bucket' on my bike.

There's only one relay that I havn't replaced yet on my bike, and it's a short square metal cased relay next to the turn directional relay, or flasher unit, so I'm quite sure that's the offending part.

There is nothing inside my headlight bucket, either, short of the lamp wiring, of course.

Those manuals don't really devote a lot of time/space to the R65.
Unless they specifically say R65, assume they are talking about the big bikes.

I finally got to the bottom of my head light problem, and the lighting relay was not bad.

To the best that I can ascertain, the original problem was a wire came loose from the ignition switch ( green/violet).

When I removed the ignition switch to check it, I thought I pulled one wire off while removing it.

There is another connector by my ignition switch ( green/black wires) that is not used for some reason, when I put the switch back in, I put the green/black wires, not the green/violet wires back on.

About three hours later, I was tracing where the green/violet wire from the light relay went to, well I traced it back to the head light switch, and found that I had put the wrong connector back on the switch.

After putting everything back together, it all works like it should !!!!!!!

Looks like the green/black wires are for the buzzer relay that some bikes had installed from the factory .
