After much research I think I have decided that the R65 is the best bike for me. I want something that is most months a fun and easy going day tripper or afternoon ride, but once or twice a year can make it to Michigan UP from Chicago.

Current ride is a Triumph Legend TT. Great bike, more than enough power for my style. Main beef is the range for touring is a bit short. I'll be selling that off ASAP and looking for an R65, or maybe same era r80.

Be careful and do diligent research. My R65 will deliver 50+ MPG. The R80 I owned would be lucky to get 34 MPG. The R80's were pigs at the pump for some reason. With the price of fuel nearing $5 this difference is now HUGE.

When you top off your R80 the guy on the R65 still has "at least" 75 free miles to go

R65 is the way to go for my $0.02
