Pannier Racks
« on: March 28, 2008, 10:18:49 PM »
Hi All,

I am also looking at getting Krauser classic K1 panniers and pannier racks to fit the R65 if I buy it.  I notice Siebenrock and other suppliers have racks for post 1985 R65s but not the smaller frame models.

Does anyone know a good on-line supplier for new pannier racks for a 1981 R65?

Best to all,
Paul

i dunno besides dealers that can order them straight from deutschland...keep your eyes on ebay, IBMWR Marketplace (just google it), boxerworks, and especially the for sale section here as someone might want to give theirs up. personally i'm not using mine at the moment but one day, if i get tired of the streetfighter, rebel life, i might put em back on....sorry

Paul,

I easily modified the Pannier frames from an 82 R100RT to fit my 84 R65.

As I recall, I had to cut a tab on one side and attach the bottom forward legs in a different way but the frames fit fine.  The top "6 pack" rack from the R100 fit also.

This allowed me to mount either the older Krauser cases or the newer BMW cases on the R65.

Good luck!

I have a set of Krauser/BMW panniers for my 90/6, however be aware that by now original Krausers are getting hard to get in good condition, and the plastic is fragile due to time by now if they are. My own Krausers are more of a display item even though they are in good condition as they now feel too fragile for decent work.
As a consequence, I purchased Hepco & Becker pannier frames with rack to replace the ones on my 65 Mono, and frames/rack for my K75 so I can use the decent panniers that H & B make on either, as well as their top case that locks to the rack.
What I'm saying is, that the H & B panniers fit the stock BMW frames and vice versa, though some small mods may be needed. I'm not sure if they do the SWB R65's, but you can try that avenue.

Hello,
I have a philosophical question about pannier frames:
I have Hepco panniers mounted in Krauser frames with an adapter for the lock with no problem.
But I want to put chromed frames (OEM) with BMW panniers (the ones with letters BMW and orange reflectors) . I don´t understand well how the pannier locks in the frame since I´m thinking in the way the Hepco does and I cannot see in the frames were the locks fit in them.
Can you illustrate me with some picture of the BMW panniers fitting in the frames?
Thanks in advance.
