Bike I've Kept An Eye On
« on: March 12, 2010, 06:14:06 PM »
I've been keeping an eye on an R80RT on Craigslist here locally in the Phoenix area since mid October .

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/mcy/1597600490.html

Price was $3700 back in October .

Haven't gone to look at the bike, but with this new listing, $2500 seemed enticing .

Go for it, Bob.
A nice R80 is hard to beat, like an R65 with taller gearing and more torque, very smooth.

An RT Mono, at that price and with all the goodies, seems like a helluva deal  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I'd sure be tempted if it was on the east coast!  I almost bought an '86 R80 before I bought my R65.  If it only had not been three times the price...

Go check out that bike, Bob - you've still got a corner of your garage left unfilled, I think !

It would be a nice rider, and for $2500 it would seem a very fair price.  A bit of TLC and you could ride it to Redmond!

Consider it part of doing your duty to help out the elderly gentleman who is selling it.    A 1980 "barn-fresh" R100RT just turned up over here, but the person is insisting on $1500 for it and it hasn't seen the road in a while - I'd be much more confident in buying a running/registered bike for $1000 more and putting time & money into that as I could, than have another garage-occupier that will take me a year and at least $1000  to get running again.

Sounds like a good deal to me.  We must live in a price bubble here in Texas because we never see airheads priced in that range.  At least I don't and I scan the want ads regularly.  Lots of value in that bike.  What did you ever do with the 650 goose?

The V65 Guzzi, is sitting off to the side of the garage, the required emissions testing of the bike, to get it registered for street use, is what is keeping it a lower priority at this moment .

Previous owner stated that it was a 'bear' to get through emissions testing .

My only real option at this time, is to wait until the bike is 25 model years old, then get historic vehicle license plates and collector insurance, that makes the bike exempt from emissions testing .

I've got insurance premiums coming due, in the next month on the R65, it has collector insurance and historic vehicle license plates .

I had heard from another rider, that if you had collector insurance, that the bike would be exempt from emissions testing, even without the required license plates, I'll inquire about that when I renew the insurance on the R65 .

I sent the owner of the R80RT an email this morning, see what kind of response I get .
