If anyone in NC could help, registration question
« on: January 11, 2009, 01:14:30 AM »
Hey. I'm going to the nearest license plate agency (DMV apparently couldn't answer this question) on Monday, but kind of wondering if there's anyone from NC on here that could help. I've got a potential R65 I'm looking at, thing is, if I buy it now I won't be able to transfer the title over to my name and register it for a couple months - probably 2. It'd be coming from out of state.

What kind of penalties will I have to pay if I do this?

If the seller gets back to me I may have a "Should I buy this?" thread too  :P

To my knowledge, there wouldn't be any penalties involved, if I understand your question correctly.
I've done this twice in the last 5 or so years, with bikes bought out of state, and didn't have any problems.

One of these times I also had the title put into my name but didn't register the bike for several months as it wasn't currently running and I didn't want to put a 12 month tag on a non-op vehicle. There are also no property taxes to pay until the vehicle is registered either.

Good luck with your purchase  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

You technically have 30 days to get the bike registered/titled in NC, but that is from the date on the paperwork.  There is a penalty of $10 if it goes past the 30 days, but that's it.  Not worth worrying about in my estimation.  And that is based on the date on the assignment of the title, not actual possession.
