latest pictures of my bike
« on: September 02, 2008, 08:02:52 PM »
I couldn't find if anyone had started a thread on pictures of our bikes.
Someone started such a thread on Boxerworks, and I had been meaning to get some snaps for several weeks now, so this kind of got me off my butt.  I forgot and left the camera on B&W from the last use...

I really like your bike Rob. Almost (dare I say) proletarian. That solo seat is very cool, and the luggage rack looks like you can carry quite a bit without the need for a top case. The B&W photo really brings out the style (and chrome!).

My R65 is still 65 pieces, but when the cold weather hits Maine, I hope to find a friend's garage to put it back together.

Let's see some bikes!

The mufflers only look that good because they are nearly brand new.  Maybe 500 miles?  I picked them up on Ebay for a song!  $330 included shipping!

Header pipes are next.  I can stomach the $100+ each for the headers, but new mufflers were just too outrageous.  Then these showed up...

And Rob, do I see side covers on your bike???  Wow!!  :o

Are these the ones you said you had stashed away?

It was really unintentional, and was one of those things where I wondered where I had left my brain.
I would be happier seeing the red and orange light lenses, and the hint of brown on the fender and side covers.

Oh well.  At least it is arty.  ;)

That picture looks really cool, Rob.   I like the b&w.  Remember when all pictures were in b&w except for "slides"?  You do a good job in setting up the picture.

I don't have a brand new picture of my bike.  Guess I'll have to take a picture.

Yikes

I wondered who it was who snagged those BMW mufflers on ebay!  How great is it to get both mufflers for less than the cost of one new one?  I was sorely tempted to bid on those, but new mufflers have to wait in line behind the top-end job I'm saving for.  My muffs look pretty good, but sound louder than I like.  Did the new ones make a big difference in the sound of your bike?

Really cool looking machine, especially in those B&W shots.  I don't think I've seen another quite like it.

John

Thank you, Melena.

Yikes - Yeah, I was really thrilled with the muffler deal, but sadly, no, they have not made a discernible difference over my originals!
I don't know where the noise is I am hearing, but it is louder than I would like.  The header pipes are in pretty bad shape, with a good size dent in the left one on the leading lower edge.  It could be a leak somewhere, or even intake noise from the perforated airbox.
It might even be coming from my crankcase vent! :o

The new mufflers sure do look pretty, though, even if they are chrome.  ;)

It would only be "hint of brown" with that nifty tank cover on.  I would like to see a picture of your brown beauty in it's true colors (no tank cover.)  I do think the b&ws are very complimentary of your bike!  Very kewl!  8-) as well as "artsy"!  [smiley=beatnik.gif]

My bike only photographs well from the right side, when nude, if you know what I mean.

I have no dents in my tank, amazingly enough, but the left side is the side that has seen all of the scratches over the years.

Back when the bike was just a few years old, I had the opportunity to buy the touch-up paint that the dealers sell.  The color matched perfectly, but the results just proved that I am no artist.

I had a different tank cover back then - no padding and a flat pocket on either side, perfect for a map.  As it was, I was lucky to get this one just before Mustang quit making them.

I like it without the cover on, but now that I have the leg shields, I am worried about rubbing on the paint.  I could always take a little more glass off on that edge, of course.

I had a rattle that was quite unerving. Sounded like a valve going bad.  Turned out to be the Reynolds center stand rattling at a certain RPM against the RH mufflerclamp bolt.  (phew!)
