My father needs help

Hello everyone i'm Olan. My father recently bought an 1984 R65 and has great intentions of restoring her, he's no good at computers so im offering my help.

We would really love it if someone could tell us the correct name for the bracket which holds the headlight on and possibly a part number etc. for order. We're in Ireland and would be ordering our parts from "motobins" in the UK.

Hi Olan

Welcome to the R65 website.

There are a number of parts websites available on line, the one I use most is RealOEM.com.

Before you go there, get the last 7 characters of the bike's VIN (vehicle identification number), or serial number however it is referred to in your part of the world.

After entering the VIN, at the bottom it will give you the date of manufacture, it is sometimes required, as there have been a few changes in parts used during production, that will be noted with the part number as well.

It's not to difficult to find the parts you are looking for, but sometimes they are not located where you think they should be.

The part you are looking for is the sheet metal 'panel' ( that's the official nomenclature in the parts catalog ), that also has the tubes to mount the turn directional housings and lenses.

The part number is : 31421235573.

 Don't be shy about posting, there's quite a bit of knowledge about the R65 on this site, and if we don't know, there are a few other sites on BMW motorcycles out there.

I'm sure the members on this site that are from the UK, can give a few local sites as well.

Olan, you should be able to e-mail the BMW part number to Morto-Bins and they can cross it over to their system as the part numbers on their web site have no relationship to the BMW numbers.  That part is somewhat pricey, new, so if you can find a used one that would be your best bet.

Olan, save dear ol' dad these online parts fiches too. That way he can look up his part #s, see what fits where, shop around for best prices, etc. I've used them a lot on my own '84.

Hello all,

Thanks again lads, we actually removed the front fairing and intend leaving it off but have discovered that a previous owner made a dogs bolox of the wiring!![smiley=huh.gif] gonna have to get a new wiring loom for the indicator etc. at some stage, must do some research, luckly we've got the manuals now!

Ah do from tother side of the Irish Sea. The nice thing about Motorworks and Bins is they are dead easy to talk to on the phone. The know boxers inside out and can usually tell what your on about, if you have any part issues just phone them and ask... Hell I've even phoned them when putting the things back together and asked.
