'Cush' Driveshaft

It was mentioned in another thread about the cush drive shaft, what the supposed advantage of the cush , or spring loaded feature ?

If you've ever ridden a 900 with solid shaft, you wouldn't be asking the question!! LOL
It smoothes out gear changes, clutch engagements, and if changing down suddenly on a trailing throttle with the larger machines, stops the dreaded momentary back wheel lockup. The 65's have always had them, I fitted one to my 90/6 (they retro fit with no problems), and from about '80 all the Airheads got them.
Some racer types though prefer the solid shafts for weight saving and less complexity, hence reliability, reasons.

pretty much every new bike out there has some type or another, they also help save your trans. by allowing some place for it to slip.
