Greatings from Slovenija
« on: November 20, 2006, 03:49:19 PM »
I am a new member of this ekcellent site. I am driving R45 for for the last few years  :)

The bike is still original except the windscrean and mirrors. A few months ago I have mounted Krauser side cases. The bike was made in 1985 and is a 35 HP model.

It is fall here in Slovenija and it is quite cold. The motorcycle season has ended one month ago, but I am still on the road  ;)

I think the dual shockers were made for an additional year or two for the Euoropean market.  Same way you could get a '96 over there...

Welcome ciciban!

What a beautiful bike you have.  It is so clean and shiny and very well taken care of.   It must be nice to ride around such beautiful country.

Thank you for all compliments. I am pretty sure that your motorcycles look very nice too.

The R45 model is quite common in Europe. The BMW stopped producing this bike in 1985. As I know the R45 was never equipped with monolever. Even R65 models with mono shock are hard to find.

That would account for the ease of parts availability for our "rare" '79-'84 model year US R65s.

For those that didn't know, Europe had the R65 (and R45?) in 1978.

Does that mean production for those bikes started in 1977?

Hi, Ciciban and welcome! I bet you would love to get one of our forum jacket patches that includes the R45??!! Do we have any left Melena?

Your bike looks super clean. Could you tell us a bit about Slovenia and it's riding roads?
1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".

Hi!  :)

I am sorry that I did not answer your question earlier, because I do not have a lot off free time lately.

It is hard to describe roads in only a few sentencies. My small country is very colourful. It has got a lot of forrests, mountains, vineyards, fields, rivers and little bit of see. We have a nick name for Slovenija. We call our country kura/chicken because it looks on the map like chicken (next to  Italy which slightly resembles to shoe). So chicken has got 9 unique and beautifull regions. The roads are the mirror of the specific country character. In general the roads are quite narrow and very twisted. There are many nice roads. Road in valley of river So[ch269]a is wery popular and the nature is very beautifull because of the crystal clear river So[ch269]a, green forest and surrounding white mountains. There are some nice mountain passes in the Alps (Mangart 1900m and Vrši[ch269]).

Because we can circle the whole country in only one day (900km or 550miles), we often visit our neighbour countries: Italy, Croatia, Hungary and Austria. Croatia is very popular in summer, because they have got very nice sea.

ciciban,

What a beautiful country you live in.  What a joy it must be to ride through it.  Your roads sound like they would be fun to ride.  I'm afraid I'd be watching everything but the roads in such a beautiful place though.    ::)

To answer Sue's question, yes I do have more of the patches.  I should post that somewhere so people will know they are available.

Welcome to our little site, Ciciban!  Always like to hear from our fellow R45/R65 riders from across the Atlantic!  Love that red color, too!  What a shame that BMW didn't think the R65 looked good in red.  I would LOVE to ride around on a R65 in red like your R45!

A good friend of mine who lives in England (Will, another R65 rider) sent me a plastic model kit of a R45 last year, and I still haven't gotten around to assembling it yet!  (It looks so good in it's box that I am hesitant to put it together!  Plus, I'd have to paint it red!  ;)

Anyway, welcome, Ciciban!  Hope to see your posts regularly around here!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
