Battery Width
« on: April 08, 2019, 04:53:20 AM »
My bike has manufacturer date 12/81 and when I bought it a year ago  there was no battery holder, the battery was sitting on a bit of plywood! I bought part no 61-21-1-243-302 battery hold down which I note is  75mm wide. Many online agencies recommend and sell Motorbatt MB51814 battery for a R65. However I note the specification for this battery is 80mm width. Anyone know if this battery will fit?

I don't know about that specific battery but bear in mind that the 80mm dimension will be the the maximum width of the top cover which is often wider than the battery body that sits in the batterry holder.

I just went out and looked at one of my '82 LS's, the battery is 77 mm wide and there is a 2-3 mm gap between the battery and the bottom flange of the battery box .

I think an 80 mm  wide battery would be really close, if it doesn't fit, you can reuse the piece of wood, you'lll replace the battery down the line anyway .

The top cover, don't know, mine crumbled from the heat here decades ago !!! ;D
