I would like to buy a camshaft. But without dismantling my engine (it's the whole point, being ready once the motor out to make a "new one" in one looong day).
So are all before 1984 R65 the same with 308° camshaft ?

Real OEM shows that cam in every R65 known to man, even 85-95

Part 11311335181 was found on the following vehicles:
R45-R65LS..78-85 [ch8195] (01/1978 — 07/1985)
R 65 GS, R 80 G/S, R 80 ST (80-92) [ch8195] (11/1987 — 11/1992)
R 65, R 65 RT, R 80, R 80 RT (85-95) [ch8195] (06/1985 — 11/1988)

My take on R45/R65 camshafts:

An R45/R65 308 cam is the same part for all R45/R65's (type 248 airheads) that use a 308 but different from 308 cams in type 247 airheads e.g. R75/80/100

The lower powered 27 HP "insurance specials" use a 284 cam in the R45 and 256 cam in the R65.

Barry, did these carry a model designation? I'm trying to locate those INS. cams on realoem. I'd like to figure out if there is a way to pick up anomlys from the parts catelog.

The 27 HP version of the R45 was called the R45N and it was produced for most of the production life of R45's.

The 27 HP version of the R65 came along much later perhaps only being introduced after R45 production ceased.  There may have been others but one 27 HP model was the R65 GS.

I don't know if you can tell them apart visually other than by part number but the difference is something to do with the fact that the shorter stroke type 248 engines have push rods at a different angle to the type 247.
