Saddle Refresh

I am in the process of restoring an r65 that has been sitting in a garage for the last 12 years (at least).
The saddle (seat) is in really bad shape and it is time to do something about it.

I am debating buying a new saddle off of eBay, made by Texavina. They say it is a direct fit onto the subframe with no mods. Looks pretty nice, too.
This is the easiest option, but will cost about $250 delivered. Ouch.

The other route is to install a new vinyl cover.
My hesitation is that the seat pan is in really bad shape. In fact, one of the hooks has rusted off. The rest of it has surface rust all over.

Anyone have some tips or advise on this?

Is there anyone that makes an aftermarket seat pan?

I hope no one has told you 35 year old motor cycles are cheap to but back into service

Yes, I have definitely needed more than a seat.
I've gone through almost everything so far, and replaced what was needed, including a rusty gas tank.
Now just about everything is in working order and need a nice seat to sit on.

Which year R65 ?  I guess you know the early model seats are quite different from the 81-85 seats.

On the seat pan, they all rust. Mine wasn't too bad when I recovered the seat 10 years ago so I repainted it.  It's starting to rust again now even though I went to a lot of trouble to seal the seams in the cover before fitting. I haven't seen replacement seat pans available and even replacement seats are harder to find for the early model.

This is the Motobins cover which although much thinner vinyl than the original cover has held up well.

I think I paid over 200 bucks just to have my Russel Daylong saddle recovered by the guy at Mr. Ed's Moto in Albany.  His name is actually Don.  $250 for a whole new seat doesn't sound bad to me.

Selektor, since you live in Portland, send it to Don Weber at Mr. Ed's moto in Albany Oregon.  He recovered mine and it is PERFECT!!  He also does custom seats, like on my new R1200RT.  I am pretty sure his card is in the Tigard BMW shop, since I left a bunch there.  $200 and the seat was back to original.
