Does the standard  R65 battery tray measure about 6 x 3.5 inches.  Bought a R65 and it has no tray!!!  Why would one remove it???

Some folks are going with the small lithium batteries that can be hidden in small places.    They battery tray is smaller than on the R80/R100 models of the same time period - unless the R65 you bought is a monolever frame bike - in which they are the all the same frame (after 1985) and battery tray

Check eBay as they are frequently offered. Not a lot of demand so prices are usually low. Be sure that it's an R65 tray as some vendors will post as "fits all Airheads" and that ain't necessarily true.
