Battery Tender

I just filled a new wet battery, allowed it to marinate for an hour [12.2v] and connected my Battery Tender. It had been acting funky but now I'm concerned. On connection I get a faint and rapidly flashing green light. This becomes a cycling red, green, out pattern that repeats. VOM shows 12.35v at the moment with the tender connected. Thinking this charger is toast. Anyone have one of these go belly up?

Check Snowbum's site for details on initial setup and charging of a new sloshed battery. I added a new wet one on the R100S and followed the Bum's advice to the letter. Takes a minimum of 24 hours before installing it on the bike. Done correctly, the procedure will add years to the battery's life span.

A flashing green light on the Battery Tender Junior indicates the battery is at 80% charge. A flashing red and green indicates a REVERSE Polarity Connection! Be advised, a Battery Tender will not charge a flat battery. It is sold as a "maintainer". To follow Snowbum's technique, you'll need a legit battery charger.

To update, Things seem more copacetic now with a steady red indicating a charge and it's at 12.9v so it seems to be doing it's thing for now but I'm thinking a replacement is in order. This is the Jr. model by the way. Polarity was correct so I cannot account for its spasms.

Hopefully it's not a steady red light for long, it should turn a steady green within a few hours, to indicate a full charge. If your Tender stays red, you've still got a possible battery issue, or, perhaps, the Battery Tender itself is damaged.

I had a Tender go bad once after a year or so, called Deltran up, and they sent me a new one, no red tape, free. Pleasant on the phone, no questions beyond how it was behaving, and they didn't even ask for the dead one back.
