New flasher relay
« on: August 06, 2014, 04:40:31 PM »
Hi.
I'm changing my indicators from the 4 (2 front & 2 back) to just have 2 (bar ends) and also need to change the relay to suit.

I already have the relay from bob porecha and he mapped the functions to the pins on the back of it for me. My question is about which wires on the existing relay go to the new pins on the new relay.

I need to identify the existing wires which I can connect to the new relay.

Battery (brown)??
Power (green/black)??
Switch (green/yellow)??

I tried just replacing it but ended up just blowing one of the fuses which I kind of half expected might happen.

Thanks for any help it is much appreciated. (Again)

Brown #31 on relay is earth
green/black #49 on relay is +12 Volts from fuse
green/yellow #49a on relay is output to flasher switch

Thanks for the info on the wiring. I have burnt out a number of fuses trying to get this fixed.

I am going from the 4 flashers down to two in the form of hella bar ends, but just can't seem to get them working. I have the relay hooked up now so that it doesn't blow a fuse, but when I test the indicators with the old indicator housings and bulbs nothing happens. Would this be due to the bulbs used originally were 21w?

I have the following wires connected to the new wre06 18/23 relay

X (power) - green/black
L (switch) - green/yellow
P (battery) - brown

I'm not too sure about the electrics but have managed to get an acewell working perfectly well!

So after doing a bit of digging today I have since found out the bulb type needed (18W 12v Festoon) for these and think this might be the issue, however I have one question which someone may be able to answer.

Do the bar ends require 2 wires or 1 to work?. All of the images and diagrams I have seen and read seem to suggest only 1 wire is needed to attach to the end of the bulb connector, but I have the both the earth and the left or right indicator respectively.

How many wires does the bar end indicator come with. I would think it unusual to have only one wire. It must have two connections to work but if it has only one wire the earth return could be via the chassis.

The bar ends don't come with any wiring, just the bar end and items to hold the bulb. I figured that the earth would go to the ground of the bar end chassis. I will have a closer look at the item and see if there is a ground connection in there.

Thanks.

I have bar end signals on mine and they only have one wire. The ground is made by the bar end housing itself through its contact with the handlebars. When I mounted mine I ran a second wire and made sure it was well pinched between the bar end signal mount and the inside of the handlebars. The other end got a ring terminal connector and is mounted to a frame ground.

I went from 4 indicators down to just the two bar end indicators and had the fast flashing. I went to the local auto parts store with my old flasher relay and matched the connector to a generic electronic flasher. Plugged right into the existing socket and works perfectly.

Thanks for the help on the bar end wiring they work now, but only flash twice as fast. (This is with the old relay)

When I try to replace the relay with a new wre06 all that happens is either nothing, or it blows a fuse if I switch the wiring. I am at a bit of a loss without the necessary wiring knowledge.
