The rear brake on the R65 is 200 mm diameter nominal.
If it is the same diameter on the /6 it should fit IMHO. You will have to check the axe, though and the spacers...

I have gone the other way, fitting a rear spoked wheel to my 79 R65.

I haven't done this myself, but I *believe* it can be done on the rear wheel, though there may be some work involving changing axles, bearings and shoes on the back.   As for the front, you're looking at an 18" wheel instead of the R90's stock 19" wheel, and whatever modes to be needed to make the front rotor align with the swinging caliper ATE brakes I'm not sure - - THAT wheel change would make a big difference in steering (and I'm not sure it would be good?)

Front wheel you will definitely need a new 2 rib hub.  From a GS or ST.

19 inch front wheel will mean you will have to move you fork sliders up 1/2 inch through the triple trees.  This will mean you will raiase your handle bars......

Back to the original question.......Not the front.  But probably the back.

You will need snowflakes from later R80/R100s.

But my question is Why?  Spoked wheels are better that snowflakes, in my opinion!

Yep, its for the sidecar rig. The extra weight of the sidecar tends to over stress the thin spoked wheel. I have twice now dented the wheel on the sidecar..once hitting a huge pot hole..the other a speed bump carrying a rather...hefty passenger. The sidecar wheel is a rear wheel off a R90/6. So, I need to beef that wheel up. Plus it’s hard to find someone to lace the things up. Yes, I know I should learn how to do...but won’t. The BMW dealer in Austin flatly refused to lace it up..but did give me a guy to go to,  I know replacing the front is far more trouble than I want to go through..but the sidecar is a must...and easier. The back wheel would seem to be not much of a problem. Powder coat them white would look cool.

I have an R65 front snowflake with a dent in it like that.

Pot hole.

It's junk.

At least you can rebuild it.  I have re-laced a back and it really is not that difficult, as long as you have one to compare it to or a photo

What do you run for air pressure in that sidecar wheel?
I ask, because I am slowly getting my butt in gear to get my Sputnick - which has a spoked sidecar rim, but is of Russian design (read: heavy, and probably soft cast iron) sidecar attached..


Some old-timey sidecar guys tell me that spoked wheels actually handle the side-loads of sidecar application better (At least on the bike's rear wheel where most of the weight and forces are summed).   I don't know if this is really true or not, given the thickness of the alloy wheel casings..

I am running 32 psi in the sidecar tire, 34 in the cycle's rear tire and 32 in the front. The sidecar is a Hollandia and a bit heavy.

Maybe if the air pressure was higher the rim might have been saved. I think that's that case a lot of times when rims get bent.

I'm pretty sure the snowflakes will interchange with spokes. Unless you've got a drum brake on the hack, you might want a rear disc snowflake.

I've straightened rims before and may be able to fix that one. Or, I may have a snowflake to swap if that's the direction you want to go.

Another solution is heavy duty ss spokes and Excel Takasago rims. Those suckers are STRONG!

Just wanted to note that if it's Roger Albright, http://www.ororcycle.com/, he's a stand up guy and waaaaay more helpful than the "hmph, that's a few years old" people at Lone Star.  Does tend to be busy though.  He also tends to stock some parts that you might have to order from the dealer, so keep that in mind the next time you need a cable stat.
