fi rst off an apology for not introducing myself before i started grilling people. i brought an 86 r65 mono about two months ago it was a bit of an impulse buy  mistake i dont think so . the bike is  very low mileage and well cared for  first owner for 18 years to be honest i never considered a bm after i frightened myself to death test riding gs1150 a few years  ago all down  to 2 switch indicators and mad van  man.i will try to bribe my youngest to post some pics of the bike soon.as isaid computers are still a bit high tech .anyway great forum just spent the last couple of hours looking great a whole bunch of r65 owners to answer all my idiot questions.ok the wife is getting  worried why i have been on the computer so long as i used to tell her i could not use it because of the radiation and impotence not a problem anymore  not at my age anyway later dudes

Welcome Chris, good to have another R65 Mono on board.
Don't worry about the radiation, buy an LCD screen, though impotence isn't a problem as you will be on the computer so long there is no time for sex!!

Nothing much to tell really. It became available SH and I'd been looking for an S fairing so I grabbed it, AU$70 I think. Got it years ago.
It's of unknown make, fiberglass, and the pinstripes, red and white, matched exactly the bikes. Had a dash so I added a voltmeter and clock. I replaced all the screen screws with SS, and added white nylon washers as screens I've had in the past have started to crack at that point. I always meant to paint them black, just never got round to it and now I quite like the look (or maybe I'm just too lazy!! LOL) I love my girl, she's a sweet machine and just as ready to ride 5 or 500 km with absolutely no fuss, and comfortable to boot.

Nice pic, although I do notice something that is either unique to your bike, or otherwise unique to Australia... Your rims - they are not "Snowflake" rims that seems to be standard everywhere else - can you confirm that they are 18inch rims? I wouldnt mind rims like that, since the "snowflakes" are such a hassle to clean - some areas are only accesable with a toothbrush - a tedious job, believe me...

The "Y-spoke" wheels are standard on most monoshock bikes and are a true tubeless rim...

You don't have to brush their teeth, they won't get cavities!  ;D

ahh.... ok - that will explain way I havent seen it down here at the tip of Africa - I dont think the mono shock ever came to South Africa. Would be nice to get my hands on a pair of the Y-spokes though. Does anyone have any idea what they go for in your region?

Looking at my own post, I realize that some confusion about what I said might be forthcomming, and that I should sort it out BEFORE it happens... We DID receive mono shock bikes in South Africa (and still do). Bmw owns about 35% of the biking market here in SA (most of them are 1150 and 1200GS's). What I meant to say was: "I dont think that the R65 ever came to South Africa"...
