Odd no start
« on: June 15, 2013, 04:55:04 PM »
Jumped on the bike yesterday. Hit the starter, thunk! sounded and felt like the engine was frozen and the Bendix extended to flywheel. Neutral light on, clutch out. Did this 3-4 times. Battery had been hooked up to smart charger that was happy with it's condition. I rolled the bike a few times in gear as you wound for missing teeth on ring gear and she started right up. Thoughts? Since this does not really make sense i am concerned it could happen when I am far from home,
Anybody else had this happen?

A couple of ideas, how old is the battery ?

If a serviceable type how is the electrolyte level ?

Corroded battery cables under the insulation, possibly at the starter .

A 'dry' starter, that is in need of lubrication .

I have removed  and disassembled the starters on my R65's and not one had any trace of lubricant left on any place it should be .
