front wheel installation
« on: October 11, 2012, 02:39:14 PM »
I pulled the front wheel to change the tire, and now I cant get the axle back through.  I don't have a puller on hand.  This would help a great deal.  I tried some crazy straps to hold it close to lined up as I try to turn and press it through the opposite end.  No luck.

Any tricks for getting this in without the extra set of hands that would help keep the alignment wiggle going as I twisted and advanced the axle?

Try getting something under the tire to support it while you're trying to install the axle, it's probably hanging a bit low on the opposite side you're putting the axle through .

A bit of lubricant on the axle won't hurt either .

Disregard.  Sorry, I spoke to soon.  The time it took for me to close up my work trailer, cross the street, leave this plea for help here, and then return to my trailer for more head scratching, I realized what was wrong.

I had thought I'd be smart by using a ratchet strap with hooks positioned under each fork end tied up through the tree to load the fork and raise the wheel.  Well, that worked fine for removing and installing the wheel, but apparently, even with my efforts to make it symmetrical, it still was torquing over the tubes, creating a misalignment.  As soon as I released it the axle went through, perfectly.

Thank Bob, I appreciate having your ears nearby.
