Ruby - Cafe Racer
« on: February 06, 2012, 03:22:37 AM »
Got Ruby fired up this weekend - Saturday morning.

She was her usual fickle self.

Had to pull the carbs, replace the float bowl gaskets and check/blow through the chokes. And the battery needed a jolt to get the life back into it. Trickle charger not up to it. Normal car charger seemed to do the trick.

Still a reluctant starter, with only one petrol can in the tank, I do not think there was enough 'head' of gas to keep the carbs supplied. She did eventually cough into life on reserve though.

Its been a long lay off - last ridden in June of last year. No woman like to be ignored - she was just punishing me : )

Got to get her ready for an MOT now.

They don't like to be ignored do they. I used to really notice that when I had kick start only bikes and I've also noticed that the head of fuel in the tank has some effect. They say you should not do a carb tune with less than half a tank of fuel for that very reason.

On a purely technical point provided there is enough fuel in the tank to be consistently above the main straw the head pressure is the same whether the tap is on main or reserve.
