Interesting- must be the season. I just picked up a 1979 R65 with exactly the same issue-LHS grenaded due to a dropped exhaust valve head. The damage was extraordinary! Hopefully I correctly attached a photo of my sump taken last night. I sourced several parts- a set of pistons and jugs, a LHS head, a camshaft and a LH con rod as it was in fact bent. It's easy to tell- look directly down at it- it should be parallel to the cylinder studs. I'll be looking for advice as well- but looking forward to rebuilding.
Thanks, Dave ;D

Welcome aboard, MotoDave.

You'll need to make a couple posts before you are able to post any photos. Please scale down the size of your pics before posting them.

Perhaps you and Tom can produce a DIY photo essay for us?

There are some critical -but not necessarily difficult- re-assembly issues involved. Suggest y'all both spend some quality time with the Snowbum and his website.

Thanks, Monte-
I'll just have to keep posting then!!! [smiley=bmw_smiley.gif] Just had a great experience with a local BMW shop- MAX BMW in Brookfield, CT- Great service; had 99% of the parts I need to keep going with the rebuild (all gaskets, seals, filters etc) so I am excited. I'll definitely look at the link you suggested- I appreciate it! I've been taking lots of photos, so I may take you up on the essay bit.
Regards, Dave

Another DAVE! That makes three, by my count. We haven't heard from Dave 1 in awhile. Perhaps we can nickname our newest motodave07 "Dave v2.5".   Just kidding...
