Bmw R65 - cafe racer seat

I have ordered a cafe racer seat and I have to shorten the rear frame. I saw a picture of S.Hawkins fantastic cafe racer and he has shorten the rear frame. Did he or anybody else who has shorten the frame made some reinforcement? And which speedometer i used, Sigma for a bicycle?

I do have a bit a bent bit of metal that goes from shock mount to shock mount, that supports the rear of the seat.  It would be better, however, if it were a welded bit of tube, with a couple brackets to which you can bolt the seat to.

Does that make sense?

I have thought about a Vapor or Acewell.
First I will try i Sigma bicycle computer. Maybe it is too minimalistic.

To Steve Hawkins; a piece of bent metal is a good idea.
What type of speedo do You have? It looks rather small?

Its what eventually became the vapour, I believe.

I got it from a local bike shop 10 years ago.  Cant get them anymore.

I will buy a vapour when the time comes

I've been looking at the Acewell gauge at www.dimecitycycles.com. Only $199 and conforms to the classic look.

Mine came from 'Unity Equipe' and was for a Norton 'Wideline'.

They have a wide choice of Cafe Racer seats.  Remember the Norton featherbed frame is very similar to the BMW twin-shock we all know and love.

In fact I had an old gent come up to me and ask if I had any trouble putting a BMW drive-line into a Norton frame!

If I were doing another one I would go for the Norton Slimline, as the wideline seat is quite wide at the front.

It is a simple bolt down job - no hinges or locks.  But that suited me fine.  I installed "rivnuts" into the seat base to secure it.
