Sizzles when Wet

Rode home in the rain yesterday - first time on the R65LS.

Parked in the garage and heard a sizzling sound - sounded like a pressure cooker letting off steam near right spark plug.

Thought, "Is there a hole in the cylinder?"  Googled Sizzling Airhead and was relieved to find out this is what happens when the head gets wet - water gets trapped and burns off.

Maybe I use my R65 to grill hot dogs? :D

Yes the head casting does seem to have been designed to retain little pools of water. I don't notice so much when riding in the rain and I've certainly done that the last two days.

It does bother me though when I wash the bike and being a bit anal about it I suck the water out with a syringe. If I don't do that I notice it results in white crystalized deposits when I remove the valve covers.

I wonder if anyone else will own up to cleaning the bike with a syringe. [smiley=bath.gif]

Whoa! That's way too anal for me. ::)

My 1981 just got it's first full bath in over two years upon our return from the Norton Owners Rally at Lake O' the Pines in East Texas.

A wipe down with a couple rags keeps the patina of age and use just right. ;)

Thanks - this explains why I ahve the same problem. It doesn't affect the bike in any was but is a thick and 'orrid mess whenever I take the tops off. I think the syringe idea might be worth a try. And yes - I'm just as anal about life generally  :D
