Fork seals cause loss of brakes

Hi all,

been off air for a while due to life being a bit busy.

Rode the bike to work last week and found pulling up to a red light I had no front brake. Rode gingerly the 1km left to work using just the rear brake and discovered I had a left fork seal that decided to let oil pass, and guess where the oil runs when the right oil seal leaks. Onto the only brake doing anything on an 81 R65. Used a can of CO cleaner fromwork whcih only made a inor difference. Took the bike home and ordered parts to do a major service.

They turned up Friday afternoon, and the service kit is for a 1980 R65 with the round airfilter and points. My 1981 R65 has the square filter and electronic ignition.

I fitted the fork seals today (What else are public holidays for when the bike is not running) and discovered I had the been sent the wrong pads. checked the invoice and it was correct, but the pads are not what is listed on the invoice.
Bugger, swore a bit more, soaked the old pads in brake cleaner for a while, but it still won't grab the disc properly.

Looks like i'll have to wait for the correct new parts to show up.

Not happy.

Just needed to vent to someone.
 :)

Well, John, if it were not for bad luck, you'd have no luck at all. [smiley=wall.gif]
