muffler weld
« on: April 10, 2011, 04:57:16 PM »
I've got the common problem of having the mufflers crack near the mounting bracket. I was wondering if there is any problem with having someone weld the crack to repair it? I don't know much about welding, so I'm not sure if a chromed surface can be welded or not. Any opinions or suggestions?

thanks

I had the same problem way before. To prevent further cracking, not only did the guy who I consulted welded the crack; he welded the mounting bracket to the muffler itself. He had to use a TIG weld rather than an Arc weld since the muffler is relatively thin.

Hey thanks a lot for the info! I know someone who could probably help me with the welding for cheap. The crack itself doesn't bother me a whole lot, but the muffler ends up rattling while I'm riding and it is really annoying and sounds like my bike is falling apart.
