Jon,

I am using BF Goddrich stainless steel braided hoses on my front brakes on the R65 Cafe Racer.

I have also reverted to banjo bolts and dropped the splitter used for dual disk setup.

I run a single line from the master cylinder down to the right hand caliper, which has a double banjo bolt, and then loop over the back of the fender with the second line to the other caliper, so the calipers are in series, rather than in parallel.  Not that the brakes mind - hydraulics and all.

Works a treat, actually it works too well.  Quite firm.

If you look at the picture of my bike, you will see.

Steve,
I am thinking about doing the same to my R65 and R75/6.  Did you reuse the original solo master cylinder (12mm I think) or did you change to a larger one?

ps - I am still looking for a front barke rotor if anyone has one for sale.

Thanks,
Drew

it looked like he used the same round one, the larger ones are retangle shape?

well eurotec was called and they came to my rescue again. they are getting me a banjo bolt that will work with my master cylinder and a custom brake line the will take out all the other stuff. they told me there is a plug on the bottom side near where the brake line goes in, remove the plug and put the pressure brake switch there! cool on tee or more lines to mess with. one line from the master cylinder to the little steel line from the caliper.

I would love to see some pics of the final product! Just this past weekend I found myself on a '05 CBR 600. the brakes were amazing. contemplating a complete makeover on the 82 R65LS. New master / lines / Brembos? / floating discs. I want a modern system that allows me to go deep into the curves, anyone have success with any of these mods? Any suggestions for a Herculean setup?

i have transplanted a gsxr rear end and a zr14 front end on a kz1000. it takes alot of homework and diggin in parts catologs looking at specs asking ebay sellers crazy questions (they love that!). once you figgure out what will work then it takes time to shop for the parts at your local salvage yards or ebay. my kz1000 build took over a year an half. my kz650 with the kz1000 police front end took over 6 months to get all the answers and parts.

i plan on finding another and have figgured out how to remove the lower rails of the rail and hang the engine from new rails and then i want to install a newer front end. the rear ends on these are a little more than i am used to but time and diggin i will come up with something crazy.

when i get mine all together i will show up close detail pixs of the front brake system, and steve please do us the same of your front brake set up!

MrRidden,

I changed all my lines for staineless on my 1980 R65 (after blowing by a truck with the brake lever to the handlebar) and added a second ATE caliper, changed the front rotors for EBC full floating from www.cyclebrakes.com and changed the 12mm round resevoir for a 15mm round.  I am running Galifer Kevlar (Black) pads.

The EBC part numbers for the flaoting rotors were MD606LS and MD606RS.
The Galifer part number FD013-61532 Kevlar.

The pads are for the Brembo Caliper.  I moded them to work in the ATEs.

I still have the stock splitter as I wanted the brake light switch.  Stops real good, no fade, when dry.  Squeegees abit when wet.

This should point you in the right direction for the years 1979-1984.  In 1985 BMW went to the long frame R65 monoshock and I think the front forks with the Brembos are similare to if not the same as the K75. (At the time, I was actually contemplating putting a K75 front end on my R65)
