Powdercoating Handlebar Fittings?
« on: May 12, 2010, 10:39:09 AM »
The metal housings on my clutch and front brake parts on the hanclebar on my bike are pretty grungy.  I tried painting them a couple of years ago and they still don't look good.  Since I am powdercoating all the other black pieces I'm thinking of doing these too.  Has anyone powdercoated these parts with any success?

Mike, personally...no experience with these units.  But I have an airhead friend who has with success. If I had it to do over again I would have powdercoated these items as well. Be sure to keep any powdercoat out of the interior of these units and be sure to outline your powdercoater which area you want covered and protected. Specifically the throttle and choke cases interiors should be left natural in my opinion. These are friction and lubricated surfaces (interior) and even though this is a durable coating I would think they be best left alone without coating. Just my personal opinion. Keep us informed.

I painted mine by hand with rattle can.

Thanks for the feedback Mike.  I had painted these parts with a rattle can a couple of years ago.  But, I think because of the pitting in the metal they look grungy.  I'll talk to the powdercoater about this.
