Fork Stop Dimensions
« on: September 13, 2009, 05:46:09 PM »
Could someone let me know what the dimensions are of the rectangular stop on the front of the frame fork tube?  The little protrusion that the bottom fork yoke bumps into the prevent oversteering.  Right now I got nothing there and my tank is what stops the forks, resulting in two not-so-lovely dings in the front of my tank.

I guess the best fix would be to have a new stop welded to the frame and I need to know what the right dimensions are.  Or I guess I could just replace the frame.  It really needs painting anyway! ;)

Thanks,

John Mc

the approximate dimensions are :  .75 inches wide ( 90 degrees to the steering tube) , .40 inches thick, and .75 inches deep ( from the steering tube going forward)

The tang really isn't the stop, there is a hole drilled in it, and a bolt and nut are installed in the hole, are the actual stops .

Thanks, Bob.  I went to an informal city-wide biker's get together that happens the second Sunday of each month here in Richmond.  Mine was the only R65, but I did check out the stops on an R75, R90 and R100 that were there, and they all just seemed to have a solid rectangle welded to the front of the steering tube.  The remains of whatever was on the front of my frame does appear to be threaded.

I'd appreciate hearing anybody's suggestions as to the best way to fix this.   ::)  Anybody?

Someday in the golden future, I'd like to get a nice repaint done, but not until I stop the forks from dinging the tank.  Always something that needs doing...

The hole for the stop bolt, is probably threaded .
