I am sure this thread is dead but for what its worth I had the same problem with my stock '79 stand.   I ordered springs from everyone I could find and they were all too long.   I finally went to Lowes and took the one stock spring I had left and found a spring that was close in length and tension.   I had to modify the loops a little at the end but they work great and I have ridden for over 400 miles with them so far without any problems.
