Oil leak from front cover

My porous BMW saga continues ....

After a 100 mile trip yesterday, I discovered a drop of oil under my bike and a quick investigation revealed it is coming from the front cover. There has always been a film of oil mist on the front of the engine under the cover, but this is the first drop I've noticed.

I duly consulted my Haynes manual to see what replacing the oil seals entails, but again wondered why I wasted a hard earned $80 on that silly book when the internet is FREE!

Any ideas, tips etc .......

Just one drop? Can you tell if the dino stuff is sneaking past the forward engine cover or is it at the timing chain case-to-block junction?

Need a little more info to begin the diagnosis.

Could be the O-ring on the drive end of the bean can letting a little fluid work past. Or the timing chain case gasket may be the culprit. There are about twelve Allen screws that are accessible with the front engine cover off. Maybe they need some snug love.

I'll have a good look tomorrow ..... it was from the front cover and the timing chain cover gasket/join.

Sump gasket also needs replacing.

All of my "leaks at front" issues have been the bean-can O-ring.

It is from the front cover and has been dripping onto the balance pipe for a while. I cleaned the stain and on my 140km ride today, there were more oil stains on it. Not bad, but enough to irritate me.

Also discovered the left carb has fuel stains on it and signs of leaking around the top of the float bowl .... time to replace rubbers/gaskets and give those constantly depressing carbs an overhaul.

.... about the single Weber DCOE conversion?

You may need to replace the floats as well as o-rings & gaskets.
