Seat dying?

Anyone dyed a brown seat black?

I have dyed seats in cars, but never on a bike.  The car seats held up better than expected but still eventually wore thin in spots.  I seemed to have had a bit better luck if I wiped whatever down with a rag dampened sith lacquer thinner right before spraying on the dye.
