Narrowboats
« on: June 17, 2025, 02:21:22 PM »
I met with an old friend Roses, who I haven't seen since she was driving me to Sunday school.

She and her husband were on holiday on their 2010 56' narrowboat. 1600RPM is 'high speed', 1400 is 'cruising'. This equates to between 3 and 4MPH. Clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk........ They had travelled the length of the country and were making their way back down again. They had 200 miles to go during daylight hours, so say 30 miles per day. They set off Sunday morning, and assuming no stops and no locks (which there will be), they might make it by next Sunday (ish).

As a biker, I'm not sure getting from A to B 'eventually' sits well. I suppose it's all relative as the planet is moving at 67,000 MPH.......

Is this what being retired means?  :cowsleep:

* Literally: To hit a dog with a meat-bun.:-O

For some people.  Others, like us, enjoy life at a faster pace.

During March we had a not quite what we expected and a little disappointing cyclone off Brisbane.  Fortunately a mate arrived arrived from the UK just after the airport reopened and we jumped on a pair of K75s and headed down south for a catch up with a few other like minded souls for a ride around our version of the Alps.  The second day involved a hop of around 960kms, arriving after dark with only one incident worth noting involving not hitting kangaroos.  Maybe not the same quantities of beer consumed as in our youth but an enjoyable few days none the less.

Retirement is to catch up on all the stuff you missed out on when you had to work for a living.  Oh, and I was a lot faster in those days as well.....
