Laminar Lip...Anybody tried one?
« on: October 31, 2021, 12:23:12 PM »
I have always had more wind protection in the back of my mind when on my R65LS(especially below 60F degrees. I ran across this on Face Book and am intrigued....... might toss out $99US and give it a try. Has anybody rode behind one. Called a Laminar Lip  https://laminarlip.com/index.php.

I always thought their purpose was to reduce the buffeting but interested in an in-depth review!  :lurker:

I have the same bike and have a Parabellum windscreen on it. They are not expensive and readily available. Good luck with the "Lip".

I have had a Laminar Lip on the top of my Slipstreamer windscreen for years. It definitely helps send the wind over the top of my helmet. I had a R100 with a S fairing and a real tall windshield which worked as well or better but this is the best I have come up with for the R65. Hope that helps and if you find something better I am always trying to cut down on the wind noise and buffeting.

Thanks for your input David. I'm stalling because the mini shield from Laminar lip fastens to the black portion of the LS fairing. That is my Achilles heel as the front tabs are broken and a wind break at the top of the black part would raise the front even more because I'm riding without tabs. Thought I had a fix but my 3M hook & hook tape did not last after I got it on the road. One of those things that looked pretty and worked fine in the garage but out on the road it turned into a fart with a lump in it. :uhoh2:

Joe, I fabricated two thin sheet metal strips that go under the bolts that secure the headlight bucket to the mounting bracket .
I got two tinnerman nut plate clips, drilled holes on each side of the upper LS fairing and used sheet metal screws  to secure the fairing to the new strips .
Been using it for years, no issues yet .

I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

I installed a lip on my LS last fall and I think it has made a difference in the amount of wind that hits my chest. Haven’t noticed any buffeting on my helmet. I’m 5‘8“ if that makes any difference.

I just noticed, that the picture in the first post is my bike!
