Bengt Phorqs on the road

Got a back channel email from Bengt today.

He and his new bride, Theresa, arrived safely but slightly wet in North Carolina after 1300 miles on their BMWs. Visiting family prior to riding on the The Rally.

He mentioned rain. What's that?

We arrived in Mooresville, north of Charlotte, around 1900hrs on Monday evening.  Monday was great weather.  We rode the Cherahala Skyway into Robbinsville and had I know how close to the Dragon we were we would have headed North and picked that up.  Tennessee and North Carolina have the best riding roads that I have ever ridden.

Yesterday, Tuesday, was a down day just relaxing with family and sipping on some sassaparilla in the shade.  I did make a run into the Matthews BMW shop for a new front tire.  After 8,000 miles on the Michelin Pilot Road is was beginning to cup pretty badly.  Had a new set of front and rear brake pads with me so I took the opportunity to install those also.

This morning we're off again and I believe the plan is to head back toward the west before we head to the rally in Johnson City.  There are a couple of roads in South Carolina that Theresa wanted to try and as long as we're headed that way, we'll probably head up to Robbinsville, NC, stay the night, then pick up the Dragon in the morning and on up to J. City by mid afternoon.  Unless we decide to ride it a couple of times.   ;)

Hope to meet some of you characters at the rally.  I've been in touch with Sue and SC John and they have my cell phone number.  I doubt I'll be in front of a computer again in several days.  Should have some pictures to post when we get back to Texas.  Ride safely folks!

All to soon the great 2009 Phorqs Honeymoon ride has come to an end.  We covered 3200 miles, 10 states in 11 days and rode some of the most awesome roads I've ever seen.  I had a chance to meet Mike F. from New Hampshire, John from S. Carolina, and the ever smiling Sue from Canada at the national rally in Johnson City.  I do have a few photos and will post them but want to work up a trip report complete with photos.

Aside from getting to meet some really great people, one of the highlights had to be getting to ride about 10 laps at the Bristol Motor Speedway NASCAR track.  It's only a 1/2 mile track with heavily banked corners so when you hit the turns doing about 85 or 90 it is an amazing rush.  That was really cool!

More to follow when we get the report together.
