Royal Enfield's latest
« on: February 02, 2012, 01:44:46 PM »
I've seen a few of the Royal Enfield thumpers around Denton and Austin. They do sound rather British, with just a slight Sub-Continent accent.

This retro bike niche market continues to grow.

300 of the 1,100 Steve McQueen Triumph Bonneville SE tribute bikes -in matte green- are due in the US by June of this year. Plus, the Tri Thruxton is a popular model. Moto Guzzi has released a beautiful 750 retro cafe. Perhaps BMW Motorrad will reintroduce the Airhead? Ah, dream on, Klingon.

Royal Enfield Cafe Racer
While all phases of the proposed bike have yet to be completed, Enfield Dealer Developer Ron Greene believes it will be well-received and estimates Royal Enfield will import 100 examples to U.S. in its introductory year. He believes the bike will cost from $7,995 to $8,495. “They’re always developments and constant changes going on. We won’t know what our café racer model will finally look like until we pry open the crate.”

Bengt Phorqs is squawking because it doesn't have a twin leading shoe front brake with a honkin' big air scoop.

I do believe it has the same color scheme and #7 on the plate as does the new Guzzi 750 cafe racer. Royal Enfield - India - Moto Guzzi... Naw. Not gonna happen. ;D

It is rather spiffy looking. RE does offer an accessory polished aluminum tank for the Bullet but it is a bit pricey.

I do love the retro look. The Kawasaki W800 was so hot..but not imported to the US of A. I also like the Royal Enfield’s....but.... many say the quality control in India leaves much to be desired. Too bad cause they sure look good.

As first released in the Colonies, yes, there were quality control issues. The current offerings have had issues addressed and the bikes really are worth considering if someone is enticed by the retro, big single, Ace cafe, thumper.

As a 'round towner or solo day tripper, the Royals are an option.

The double leading link brake aside, I also recommended a complimentary pudding bowl helmet.  It is an interesting retro bike but who is the market for this bike?  I can't imagine it as an entry level bike, more probably for the elderly more experienced motorcyclist who wants one for his stable.  OK, that's cool.  That's why I keep the R90/6 in my garage.  Now if Enfield wanted to catch my eye I'd like to see them bring out a retro BSA Victor 441.  Always wanted one of those.
