Here in Oregon drivers can kill bicyclists and pedestrians with impunity.  Probably motorcyclists as well.  A broken leg isn't all that bad.

My issue with bicyclist is the disregard for other traffic out in the country, where they transform from slow traffic into traffic obstructions, riding 2 or 3 abreast on a 2 lane road at 10 mph, while you and oncoming traffic is travelling at 60mph..

Meet on coming traffic at 60mph on a corner, and it's no issue.. Stick 3 idiots on bikes at 10mph in the middle of that blind corner, and someone's going to get hurt!! Can't stop in time for the human slowpokes and can't swerve into the oncoming lane because there's traffic there..

This happens all the time around here.. Groups of 30-40 touring bike riders riding down the middle of the road with no thought of the fact that all other traffic around them is travelling a 6-10 times the speed they are.. It's inconsiderate, and dangerous for everyone..

Hell, I don't ride my 150cc scooter on busy roads because I can't keep up to traffic on hills or into wind, since it only will do 45mph in those situations, but it's OK for a bike rider to do 5mph in the same situation and take up an entire lane while doing so?? >:(

And don't get me going on the fact that stop signs have no meaning to them, either.. It's like a bunch of Harley riders in a parade.. The only rules than they obey are what they want to.. The rest don't matter??

I have no issue with bicycles operated in a safe manner, out of high speed traffic, but when they become careless traffic obstructions, I think they should get a ticket just like anyone else would.

The point i was trying to make was the bullying tactics of some drivers, not long back i was followed by a van on a dual carriageway no other traffic,. i was actually on my way to Squires Cafe, doing 50, the driver could not be bothered to overtake and tried to push me out of the way.
I had to accelerate out of his way a couple of times before i turned off to avoid further conflict.
I mentioned the incident to other riders at Squires some of whom had the same experience with what appeared to be the same van.

I had a similar issue with a guy who felt he could do the same while I was riding my Helix..
Speed limit was 45, and I was doing 50 (Helix will do 70+) and he figured he'd play with the person on the scooter.. He got way close, so I bumped it up to 65 to pull away from him..  Then he got close at that speed, but as luck would have it, we had a stop sign in 1/2 mile..

It was at that time that the little scooter rider (me) got up and walked back to him and asked him if there was an issue?? (I'm over 6' and 260 pounds, and at this point, pissed off!!! >:()

He shrunk into his seat and mumbled something about slow scooters being in the way.. I LOUDLY reminded him that the speed limit was 45 and I was already well over that, yet he continued to ride my ass when I was doing 20 over!! (at this point I'm just about in the window)

He quietly mumbled "sorry dude"... I walked back to the scooter and rode away, and he turned to the left.. I figure he didn't want me to be pissed off again at the next stop sign in another mile..  ;)

Lou

Just yesterday I had two inbreds blast past me on a double yellow lined two lane road.  Uphill, near the crest.  It would have been crap on toast had there been another car coming.

Hard to be confrontational again a car or truck, though one day I'd love to follow some guy to his stop and place my front wheel inbetween his legs as he gets out.... well, in my dreams I guess...

... the wife'd frickn kill me.....  ;)
