Test to identify your political philosophy
« on: March 24, 2010, 02:01:59 PM »
If you ever wondered what side of the fence you sit on, this is a great
test!

If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.
If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat..
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for
everyone.

If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his
situation.
A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down.

If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.
(Unless it's a foreign religion, of course!)

If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping
for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.

If a conservative reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a
good laugh.
A liberal will delete it because he's "offended".

I like that and it's largely true over this side of the pond too.

I'm not the least bit "offended".

We have a gentle poke at the liberal/conservative stuff:
Q: What's the definition of a liberal?
A:  A conservative who's just been arrested.

I was a member of the NRA. but things changed, instead of the best shot guns, articles of AK47s crept in. These guys running around with AK 47s, other assault weapons, 50 caliber weapons bother me. I believe one has to the right to own weapons but I also think there has to be a rational approach to some kind of control. I dropped out of the NRA. Does this make me a liberal?  There seems to be no middle ground any more.
As a farm kid,  raised a lot of animals ..  it was never a pleasant thing to watch the spark of life go out of their eyes when I shot them between the eyes to butcher them. So, I can see the view point of those who get distressed at killing animals.  There are extremist in all groups. But why do we seek out the extremes and point them out as an example of a whole group.
I know a woman a few blocks down who could never get insurance for her daughter who had a benign tumor removed. The insurance company in smooth. legal language dropped her and no one else would pick her up. Now she can. So, while I am not impressed with parts of the health program. I am not going to work up a rage over it either.
I am not a good Christian. I tend to pray only when I have gotten my ass into deep trouble. I remember a night back in 1970 when the odds of me seeing the morning light were very chancy. I did some really deep groveling that night...made many promises.....some I can’t remember. But I am Christian enough to believe I am my brothers keeper. I don’t like knowing my insurance rates are going up but..I see it as paying for the kid down the block insurance .Christians believe they are their brothers keeper.......just don’t ask them to pay for it. So the gist to all this rambling is ..I hope to Hell I am neither a liberal or a conservative........and deeply wish more of America was the same way. Where did all the hate come from? What happened to tolerance, trying to see the other point of view.

A timely comment from you, Scotty. Spot on from several perspectives.

I just spent the last hour of this Easter morning taking an on-line diversity training course required by my employer, the Denton (TX) ISD.

Helpful? Not really but required from both me and my wife -also a DISD employee of 33+ years- so we might both keep our jobs.

I don't want to eat a pickle. . .

Bravo, Scotty.  I guess when it comes down to it, I am considered "liberal" but I don't like labels.  I'm conservative in areas, and I'm liberal in others, but probably more liberal than conservative.  But that first post by Justin does offend me slightly... only because that ISN'T me and is just another way to label without understanding.

I too wonder why our politics are becoming increasingly more black and white, my way or no way.  The fringe on both sides of the isle disgust me. What made this country great was it's diversity and ability to work together to overcome. Now it's just screaming and pointing fingers at each other, and nothing worthwhile gets done.  We're tearing it apart together all the while shoving blame on those we don't agree with.
