It's New Years Eve here,a perfect cloudless summers day, just slightly spoiled by a stiff breeze....time for the last ride of the year.
For the last 3 months the R65 has been disguised as a stocker, but yesterday I turned it back into a streettracker.A change of wheels puts 4.00x18 K70's front and rear, the guards come off and the solo seat goes on.
When I first got the bike it had short megas, and was a bit lean midrange...so lifted the needles a notch. When I put the Supertrapp on I noticed the exhaust was black, and the plugs looking rich.So I took a couple of plates out,so now it has 6 plates, and dropped the needles back to the stock position. So today was a test to see if it was running ok for a bigger ride in the new year.
This is a race core Supertrapp,so reducing plates doesn't make it quieter....in fact I think it's a bit louder because it's a bit more crisp. It's certainly leaner, has a bit of snap crackle and pop on over run which it didn't have before (but did with the megas),but pulls good midrange, and still spins to the red line no worries.
So,set for a 500km ride with 200km of gravel soon. But rain coming soon,so may have to put it off to next weekend.
