Need parts manual for 1980 R65
« on: September 02, 2008, 05:10:14 PM »
I'm starting to tear into my R65's tranny and will need a parts manual, either hard copy or online, to order new parts.  Anyone have a lead on either?

Don't know about a parts manual per se, but here's 2 parts fiches from different BMW dealers.
Hammersley BMW http://www.webparts.com/fiche.php  sells for below retail, but their twin-shock R65 fiche seems to have disappeared  [smiley=furious3.gif] ; they're the cheapest of the 3, the other 2 sell at full retail.

Of course, if you're in no big rush, you can get your parts #s here and then order from Chicago BMW, which is notoriously sloooooow but cheap...

The order I placed with Chi BMW in May finally shipped last week.  I had all sorts of strange things on it like head gaskets, exhaust nuts, etc...  >:(  If I wouldn't have called last week it would have STILL been sitting there.  The guy said the note said it was waiting for the exhaust nuts, which had long since been received, and he didn't know why it was not shipped...  Glad it wasn't anything important...  Now, Monte can get crap from them in a week!

Yep, your experiences sound just about like mine, Justin. Every time I've ordered from Chicago, nothing happens until I call, whether it's 2 weeks, 2 months, whatever. Then it's always "Oh yeah, we've got it right here, ready to go out today"  ::)

I don't know how Monte does it. He must have some undisclosed family connection or something... :-?

Hardcopy (book) is still available, but it isn't cheap.  In the U.S., Capital Cycle is normally what comes to mind.

For online microfiche, I use the RealOEM site.
Go to that link, plug in your 7-digit serial number, and you are good to go.

I was able to find complete online microfiche images at: http://www.ascycles.com/Illustrated_catalog/R65(78-85)/catalog_frameset.html.

Working with Photoshop, I removed the watermarks and converted the images to black on white.  These microfiches cover all BMW models.

Wow, you have a lot of time on your hands, don't you?

RealOEM is already black on white, with no watermarks...

Stop pickin' on me!  ;D

I just called ChiTown BMW on Monday for carb rebuild kits. They had 'em in stock so I bought them. Ain't no secret. Gustav didn't blow down the telephone lines between Denton and Chicago!

I always call first 'cause I don't like back orders any more than you cats do!

The Bing overhaul kit was ordered on Monday, 01 Sep, Labor Day. ChiTown BMW was actually open for business on the holiday. DHL -Chicago's shipper of choice- dropped off my order Friday afternoon, 05 Sep.
