What is this strange stuff that falls from the heavens?

Oh - is it rain? I remember my ol' grandpappy a talkin' about this.

Yes folks - it's finally raining in good ol' Adelaide. The crickets are a chirpin' an' the Magpies are a doin' tha hula out there.

I just kinda stood and stared at the sky.

Seriously - it's been so long - it's good to get wet.

Great news to hear that the fire danger may come down a bit with the rain !!

Here in the lower lefthand corner of the US, people look forward to a rainy day when they do occur !!

Looks like today could be the 'first day of summer' here in Phoenix, it's forecast to get to 91 F. this afternoon.

I'd rather have a cool rainy day, myself.

I know what you mean Aussie!  I'll bet the plants and animals are also sighing in relief.  I can just see those hula dancing Magpies!    Thank goodness you have finally gotten some rain.

I have to agree Bob - I'd rather have it cool than hot.

Has been raining  (a gently, soaking rain) for the whole of today. Most pleasant. Has ranged from 20mm at Ceduna (way out in the sticks to 200mm (almost 8in) - honest that was what was reported!! - in Mt Gambier) to the south of Adelaide.

But I guess there is always a downside to anything. The trees - already stressed are now dropping limbs left, right and centre as the rain continues.

My wife was in Adelaide last week - I saw the temps were in the mid 30's and more,so I thought she'd be back bleating about how bloody hot it was over there.But she didn't find it oppressive....but finds it hard to sleep at night over here with our sticky humidity.

She thought it was a nice city,with lots of nice building made out of stone.With so many trees over here we have to do something with them.

Last year the area we are in had the worst drought in decades,but a few tropical storms have kept the place more on the green side this summer.

Hmm - when I was in NZ it was the middle of summer. I had to go out and buy myself a jumper (umm - sweater for our US colleagues - just don't want you to get the wrong idea..) ...Of course this was when the Aussie dollar was worth something, and it was actually cheaper to fly to NZ than it was to have a return trip to Sydney!

I really loved it though. Went to both islands. Hired a car with a mate and had to drive through floods. Went up to Franz Joseph, etc.

I remember at one point we went into a pub in Auckland - looked fine from the outside...but after we bought a drink we began to look around...I have to admit that I told him to drink up - I just didn't feel comfortable. It turns out it was the local watering hole of the local bikie brigade. They didn't look real friendly.

When he returned to Oz, I hired a bike - a Yamaha SR500 - and did it all again. The bike was the absolute pits. Threw the chain at one point and I spent an absolute age getting it on again. Fortunately it was at the very end of the trip.

Like Bob said we do sit out under the Ramada and watch when it does rain. Here it is an event. I hate the blood rains tho. That is a dust storm followed by rain. It comes down as reddish mud, really!
